CONTINUITY OR CHANGE

http://www.forwardnigeria.ng/40m_nigerians_can_afford_cars_under_jonathan_okonjo_iweala

After reading piece contained in above link i can't but make some comments. In my several years of studying macro and micro economy I have not see any economy where car ownership by citizen is solely used as determinant of economic development.

Interestingly while writing this am standing on a mass transit bus , in the usual Lagos evening hold up. Of course I have to pack my car some weeks ago having experienced terrible hold up for the last 5 weeks.

So back to the subject how does ownership of 40m cars translate to economic development. I guess included in the cars are Tokunbos, second hand and other rickety cars. I beg to ask what is the essence of car when:

1. You are scared to drive them for hold up
2. Roads are bad and scarcely maintained
3. Fueling cost outrageous despite the fact that Nigeria is a oil producing nation.
4. Driving cars in Nigeria is one of the riskiest adventure in have ever known.

Ask car owners they will tell you, they would prefer a working transport system, a motor able road and reasonably priced fuel.

All this will help improve disposable income and improve life and general well being. I can bet 50% of car owners Nigeria will prefer a working transport systems to their cars.

You pity most car owners and their cars when they sweat it daily in needless traffic jams in most of our cities.

Aside from thses, the world has moved and is moving daily to even more environmental friendly cars.

we would need meteorologist and medical experts to help measure health and economic hazard these cars are having on the populace.

As we go to poll again in few days this should be one of key issues that determine our ballot, are we going to continue like this forever, let's act differently , let's change the team for the next 4 year.

Arise of compatriot it is time for Change.

No matter how long a man travelike in the wrong direction he can never get to hisdesired destination. Nigeria is not yet on track
